INTERPRETERS
Interpreters are language professionals skilled at working between British Sign Language and English. Simply put, when two or more people do not share the same language an interpreter will make the link linguistically and culturally. Our experience, and a nationwide network of qualified interpreters, ensures a service of the highest standard.
LIPSPEAKERS
For Deaf people whose preferred language is not BSL it may be beneficial to use the services of lip-speakers; a non-intrusive way of ensuring equality and enabling participation. A professional lip-speaker is a highly trained person who will relay all that is said by hearing participants.
ELECTRONIC NOTE-TAKERS (ENT)
A professional electronic note-taker is an invaluable member of the support service. In enabling the Deaf person to play an active part in proceedings and be able to reflect on events at a later stage, the ENT will take any notes, minutes or asides, whilst the services of the interpreters and lip-speakers are being used.
SPEECH TO TEXT REPORTERS
A trained Reporter takes down the verbatim spoken word on a Palantype or Stenograph keyboard. The computer programme then translates this into English, which then appears on the laptop screen / projector screen. A trained Reporter can write in excess of 200 wpm.
